I've never really paid attention to BCBGeneration before. Not for any particular reason, to be honest, it simply didn't pop into my awareness. But now, I'm glad to have scoped it out! Looks like Mr. Max Azria's eldest daughter inherited some design genes, because the clothing, mostly monochrome, is elegant and basic with a very tough edge. Her repertoire goes past the flirty cocktail dresses and into interestingly cut jackets and skirts, funky sweaters and studded everything. The prices range from 75 - 250, but nearly all the pieces are around 100$. I'm loving this brand!
Oh, and sorry for the halt in posts recently - it was spring break, which seems like it should increase the amount of posting, right? But not until recently, when I got back in school again, did I feel the urge to post.

Haircuts have always been an issue for me - they never, ever turn out the way I want them to be, or even turn out in a way that doesn't make me burst into tears. So after a particularly horrific cut last June, I refrained from going to a hair salon till - beauty freaks, be prepared to gasp - a few weeks ago. I know, I know you're supposed to get a trim every couple of months or so, but I enjoy not looking like I escaped from an asylum, thank you very much.
Anyways, after a good half hour spent in front of the mirror, I learned two things: 1) I am even more unphotogenic that I thought, and 2) DSLR's are so bad for cam-whoring. So. So. bad.

Well. This photo is awkward.

I happen to look both with child and like an amputee, but I actually rather adore this outfit. The skirt is just a bit too body-con to wear to school with a shorter top, and the top too flowy and long to wear with loose pants, so hopefully it turned out well.

Three Little Birds

Erdem masters prints every season, but this bird print, from their most recent Fall/Winter collection in London Fashion Week, was especially fascinating.

It's gorgeously enchanting, no?

This dress evokes images of copper birds soaring through the sky, leaving their shapes embedded in storm clouds - but however lovely those images are, especially when paired with those delicious boots, they still remind me of Miu Miu's S/S10 collection greatly. I'm not saying Erdem was copying Miu Miu, I'm pretty much just using it as a segway to gush about the Miu Miu dresses and shoes.

Perfect. Definitely perfect, especially for spring.

There are (rightfully) many, many tributes to him out there and as I've never met him, seen him, owned anything by him or even tried something on by McQueen before, I know I can't give the best.
But the news of Lee's death brought me to actual tears. He was a bright light in fashion, endlessly inspiring and creative and innovative, I feel like he must have had so much talent left to share with the world at 40. McQueen had a real gift, he was more of an artist than just a clothing designer- his death really, truly saddens me.

So to switch tones from mournful to rather angry, annoyed, aggravated, look at this appalling article by Toby Young HERE.
That article managed to make me sad, frustrated and furious all at the same time.
First of all, it's extremely disrespectful to Alexander McQueen's memory. It's so rude and insensitive to talk like that about someone who was only yesterday a victim of suicide.
Secondly, it's horrible to say that there is no such thing as talent or genius in fashion- way to criticize everyone who's passion in life is for fashion.
Third of all, McQueen did not manage to be one of the top designers through being shy and 'radiating hostility'. He got to the top through his different ideas, different way of looking at the world, and taking those ideas and transforming the intangible into something tangible: gorgeous pieces of clothing- no, pieces of art. And then to say that McQueen's death should not be mourned in the way that say, Oscar Wilde's was. I understand that not everyone is a fan of fashion and may place it far, far lower than writing, but it's not kind or right to say that it's strange to categorize his death with the likes of Oscar Wilde and Jimi Hendrix. Young claims that there is no way to say if a designer is 'good' or 'bad', which is true, but is in no way different from how to tell if a Jimi Hendrix was a 'good' musician, or Oscar Wilde a 'good' writer. Music, writing, designing- they're all forms of art; and isn't art really all subjective? So to say that McQueen was not a 'good' artist but that Wilde is one is ridiculous.

McQueen was truly different, he was both forward but crowd pleasing, innovative but easy to covet. He was the king of inspiration, of clothes beyond their times, of creating shows so beautiful they cause people to break down and cry.
I'm sorry for the rant, but I just had to. Toby Young has, for lack of a better phrase, pissed me off and made me feel worse about McQueen's death. Then again, he is the author of books titled 'No Hands Clapping' and 'How to Lose Friends & Alienate People'. How appropriate.

RIP Lee Alexander McQueen. We'll miss you.

Oh, Topshop. I love you so. But I still love when I catch you getting 'inspired' by other designers. Honestly, I spend so much time on both sites like Topshop and Net-A-Porter, I often spot the inspired pieces. So here are a few I found just yesterday. And don't get me wrong- I love stores that make high fashion trends available to people without a bottomless wallet. I know a lot of people hate features like Adventures in Copyright, but I just personally enjoy spotting what aspects they copy, what they change, etc.
Consider it a study on what the mass markets enjoy, if you must :)

Remember these crazy Prada heels? Ooh, fancy. And mohawk-y. These shoes, with their fan top, are flashy and unforgettable. Although the Topshop version is tamer, in a different material, and studless, it's obvious that the designer of these shoes caught a whiff of the Prada muse.

One last thing:

I saved this one as 'TOPSHOP WTF'.
I mean. Does anyone actually find this attractive? I'm sorry if you do, because I think this 'dress' is rather hideous. Aiee. It actually kind of hurts my eyes. The color of that yellow-y denim, the unflattering shape, the awkard patches... I can almost imagine the smell of the gas station employee wearing this when I see it.

It was unseasonably warm last Saturday, so I got to wear a summery outfit - yes! Definitely a nice change from jeans and boots and endless layers. Unfortunately, it's back to being freezing and also happens to be Spirit Week at my school, which means my outfits will most likely be hideous and mismatched.

I also attempted a side braid, a la Alexander Wang and Miu Miu.

Unlike the models, I obviously don't have a gorgeously long mane or world-renowned hairdressers styling it, but I think it turned out great. It's definitely going to be a hairstyle I'll continue to use to break the monotonous, hair wavy and down routine.

Let's hope for another summery weekend.

This song, by French artist Sliimy, is the best. Even if slightly childish, Mika-like music isn't your thing, just mute your computer and simply watch the video- it's pure genius! One warning: if you're a straight, football-watching guy, this probably will scare you. Just a bit.

I'm so jealous of this MMM blazer that was on Sea of Shoes. Of course, I'm jealous of all of Jane's clothing, but this duct taped blazer is truly perfect. Perfect.

Other things:
1. Why haven't my Vivienne Westwood boots arrived yet? :( I'm obsessing right now, even considering calling the post office - I want my pirate boots!

2. I'm going to New York in 10 days! Yess. It'll be my first major, real-life shopping since summer in the city. Does anyone have any amazing boutiques to reccommend? I have a huge list that I'm currently narrowing down, so I need some help finding the amazing ones. Price points, hmm, I don't know. It's not completely strict, as you guys probably know, I'll fall for amazing pieces and am willing to blow some money on it, but think more See by Chloe than Chloe! For the sake of my savings :)

I'm not a fan of Heidi. I'm really, really not. But when I saw these recent photos of her, I felt depressed. Because honestly, why would a perfectly beautiful young girl, only aged 23, feel the need to get 10 plastic surgeries in one day? Liposuction (butt, legs, stomach), cheek implants, eyebrow lift, more nose surgeries, something about her boobs... Isn't that possibly the craziest thing you've ever heard?

Not to mention the countless other surgeries she's had before- first, it was a boob job, from A to C. Then she got larger. And larger. And now her DD's look utterly out of proportion with her 24 inch, liposuctioned waist.
Her annoying personality and equally annoying Spencer bother me endlessly, but these recent photos made me pity her. Not to sound like a mother, but I really don't believe in such excessive plastic surgery and I think that no girl should be getting Botox before their 30th birthday, even in Hollywood.
This may sound surprising, but I don't blame her for it. First of all, she's not particularly talented - that's practically a fact- so all of her fame is based on her crazy, attention-loving antics and her looks. Second of all, she's photographed so often, it must be hard to not want to improve your looks (but of course, not her wild extents). Yes, Heidi is crazy for going through so much unnecessary surgery, but instead of laughing at her, I think we should feel sorry for her being slightly brainwashed and extremely pathetic.

It's shocking that a 23 year old girl has gone through more surgeries in a few years - and ten in one day - than most people, if any, in their entire lives. There's nothing natural about her anymore, she looks like if you touched her, she'd be cold, like a wax figure.
Heidi must think that a pretty girl has to resemble a Barbie doll: blonde, incredibly skinny, perfectly chiseled everything, but most of all, incredibly plastic.

Apple announced the iPad yesterday/today. In case you haven't obsessively checked the website or seen the many opinions voiced on Twitter and Facebook yet, the iPad is a near 10-inch touch screen tablet, complete with WiFi or 3G, hundreds of thousands of apps and iWork. In a way, it's an enlarged version of the iPod touch, but the difference in size and the differences in content really set it apart- it's the love child of an iPod touch and a MacBook.
This tablet has already created a huge fuss, even months before it was officially announced. In a recent Businessweek, there was an article about the ways the iPad will change the world. This new technology will ignite a new spark of inspiration amongst game creators, graphic designers and the internet loving youth of today- this tablet, or slate, will bring technology even beyond Back to the Future writers' wildest dreams to the masses and kick the (very futuristic sounding) year of 2010 to a great, electronic start.

Fashion, in recent years, has been greatly intertwined with technology- take this blog, or any other of the thousands and thousands of fashion blogs out there as a grand example. So if fashion is so integrated with technology, won't the iPad affect fashion as well? The answer is most likely yes, so here are three ways I believe the iPad will change the world of fashion.

1. Even more opportunities and further convenience for putting your thoughts out there.
Once again, take a blog as an example. Not mine, but of a blogger whose success is exponentially greater than mine- Tavi. You've heard of Tavi: the tiny, elfin blogger from the suburbs of Chicago wowed (and continues to wow) the fashion world with witty writing and innovative personal style, scoring her jobs with Rodarte for Target, front row seats at fashion week, and a gig at Pop Magazine. Not bad for someone years away from getting a learner's permit, right? This shows the opportunities that the internet and blog hosts like Blogger, WordPress, Typepad present for regular, clothes-loving, Lanvin-worshipping people out there. The iPad will make things like blogging, tweeting, tumbling, general sharing so much easier, and I suspect that the frequency of these things will increase- the tablet is both lighter than a laptop but easier on the eyes than a tiny iPhone screen. It will make everything more on-the-go, more on your fingertips and more simple for expressing your thoughts to the world.
The tablet could also make personal sharing more convenient- with the ability to directly connect with cameras, you could quickly upload a photo of yourself, in a great outfit, in front of the Eifel Tower and send it your friend. The iPad will make it easier to tweet gushing comments about the shoes you just saw, write a blog post on the subway, share your outfits with friends and sites like Weardrobe and show off your sartorial ideas with a few quick taps on the touch screen.

2. Migration from print to electronic will be put on fast forward.
The print business has been declining for years now- which is sad for those in that field of work, but sometimes, it's just so much better to read online instead of lugging around WWD, Lula, Vogue and a couple of sketchbooks at one time. The iPad will increase the speed of the move from paper print to reading everything online by ten-fold. On iPod touches and iPhones, as well as other Smartphones, you could easily check your favorite blog, the New York Times or style.com. But the tablet's screen is several times larger, which would make the reading more 'realistic' and less painful for those poor eyes of yours. And like the newer iPhones, the iPad has 3G, which is easy to choose over stealing your neighbor's WiFi.
Applications for Elle, W, Vogue, GQ, WWD, the Herald Tribune, etc. will begin appearing and soon enough, instead of reading the fussy newspaper, parents all over the world will begin propping up their iPad on the kitchen table over breakfast. And not to mention the books- this tablet, jam-packed with other features, has the capability to hold more than ten times the iBooks than the Kindle, Amazon's device for reading- and only reading.

3. Both online and offline shopping will be made so, so much easier.
I can't imagine what it was like without having the internet to browse, shop and drool over clothes. Maybe it's just the 21st century kid inside me talking, but as I don't remember much of anything before the new millennium, shopping without having the convenience of online stores and guides seems difficult! The great boom of purely online stores like Net-A-Porter or ShopBop, a favorite boutique or brand's web shop or desirable departments store's huge selections has made shopping easy, fun, accessible and simple. To people like my parents and especially my grandparents, the idea that you can click a few things, enter 20 numbers or so, and ta-da, three to five days later, your new earrings arrive in the mail. Along with that book you ordered. And the scarf you plan on gifting your friend. And a couple of pamphlets. Oh, and don't forget the watercolor painting and hand-made Hibiscus soap from Etsy!
Clothes, accessories and shoe shopping has become a breeze, for everyone from the New York fashionistas to the girl living in Boulder who loves the look of Milly dresses. The tablet, just like it will with online media, will increase the amount of people shopping online, or using online shopping to aide their offline shopping. Add that with the improved map feature of the iPad, and soon, this 10-inch tablet could be guiding you around cities, looking for that one vintage store you really want to check out. And really, taking out the iPad in public places like buses and parks to stare at those Giuseppe Zanotti heels is a lot more convenient and discreet than pulling out that clunky, slow laptop (affectionately named Betsy, of course.)

All of those reasons above, as well as the relatively cheap price tag (and with Apple, you know in six months it's going to be 1/2 of that), make me think that this iPad is going to be drastically changing the fashion world as we know it. Soon enough, you'll be reading an article from WWD about a gorgeous necklace, which you'll then tweet/tumble/blog about, then go on that store's online shop to reserve one for yourself, use a map feature to find the right shop, then head on your merry little way. All with the help of this gorgeously sleek, technological miracle of a tablet.

Couture is drama. Couture is putting on a show: of showing off, of incredible talent, astonishing inspiration. Couture isn't about making money, it's about portraying what has drawn so many people into this world of fashion- a wonderland of sorts, a world where everything is delicately made, infused with passion and most of all, painfully beautiful.
I don't pretend to be a couture expert, because I'm actually quite the opposite of an expert on anything. But one thing I do know is that everyone loves a bit of haute couture, from important editors, rich wives of oil sheiks, to obsessive bloggers who ignore teachers during school in order to profusely pore over every image on Style.com (sound familiar?)
Even Frida Giannini, creative director of Gucci, has expressed an interest, in a recent interview, about designer couture. Another thing about couture that makes it even more enchanting- the exclusiveness of it! It's a small group of designers that create haute couture and it's hard to compare with the best: Chanel, Dior, Givenchy are all masters of couture.

My favorite looks, so far, from Paris Spring 2010 Couture:

Oh, John Galliano, you evil mastermind. This collection is strict, but sexy in a restained way. Very equestrian, very dramatic. The best part for me was Karlie Kloss in the first look of the show, looking exceptionally serious, and the gorgeous, gorgeous gowns that have a radius of several feet. The frothy layers, the amazing shoes, the makeup, the severity of the suits.

Chanel. Yes. This may be my new favorite collection of all time. The pastels and metallic fabrics, the huge hair and the color-coordinated bows, the shimmery tights and classic suits. It's so modern, yet so Chanel. I have the sudden urge to kiss a certain white-haired, German designer.

Givenchy, Armani Prive and Anne Valerie Hash all had great collections- look at that gorgeous Givenchy gown (alliteration!), doesn't it remind you of the fiery dress Phillip Lim once designed for Chanel Iman as his date to the Met Ball? The structure of the Armani is stunning, and that sequined, slightly nautical jumpsuit is, for lack of a better word, awesome.

Anyyyyyyyyyways:
I'm in love with brogues. Around a year-ish ago, I was browsing Net-A-Porter and came upon the most beautiful Miu Miu flats. Ever. Honestly, everything Miu Miu is stunning, but these were especially stunning. They were black and white patent leather, I remember some scalloped edges, around 560$, does anyone else remember them? I was in love. But alas, they were a few hundred dollars (spare change!) too expensive, so I never got them. So a few months ago, when I was ordering from Topshop, I was inspired by those Miu Miu flats and decided to get two pairs of brogues. They came, I adored them, but still they sat in my closet until, hm, a week ago, because I was scared to wear them to school. Lame, yes, but no one else in my school has worn brogues so eh. I'm not brave, okay! I'm not sure why I'm telling you this story. Oh well. Here they are:

Nighttiming

Night markets are a staple in Asian countries: seas of people weaving past stands showcasing shirts and shoes, vendors selling frog eggs and pig intestines, thousands of games to play with the hope of winning a Hello Kitty bubble blower. And once in a while, in the midst of sequined leopard print leggings and printed t-shirts that never seem to get the grasp on proper grammar, you discover some really, really amazing finds. Which I did. Which I'm very proud of, considering the many t-shirts sporting phrases like "Sexi Speaker Hop-Hip Girrrl Love Dancer".

Find #1: A slouchy and soft wool blazer in a gorgeous, pale heather gray. For some reason, I've never owned a blazer before (only stolen from my mother, haha) but my god, this one is perfect.

Find #2: A really great washed-out blue dress with a pink rose print. I love the shape, and how many different ways I can wear it. Yes!

Find #3: This one is my favorite! My friend and I walked past a jewelry store, brushing it by as yet another one full of tacky rhinestone necklaces, but a few cute pieces caught my eye and I hauled her into the store after me. And inside, we found an amazing assortment of animal jewelry. There were lions, tigers and bears- oh my! There were also owls and crocodiles, elephants and wolves; it was amazing! I scored two rings: a rabbit head and an adorable little cat that wraps around my finger, love.

I ordered the Vivienne Westwood Pirate Boots. Oh yes! They are the most beautiful boots I have ever seen. I know, I know- how typical of me to see them on Garance Dore then buy them, instead of discovering an amazing pair in a thrift store for negative $3 dollars or whatever. Too bad. I CAN BE TYPICAL IF TYPICAL ENTITLES ME TO OWN THOSE BOOTS.

I haven't gone shopping in far too long.
I love the Camilla and Marc dress so much, it's gorgeous and subtle and do you know what I just realized? Camilla and Marc, is in my mind, similar to Elizabeth and James, which is similar to Paul and Joe, which is similar to Alice + Olivia, which is similar to Camilla and Marc. Oh dear.
I find the complexgeometries necklace stunning, it's so simple yet different. Just like complexgeometries' clothing. How coincidental...

And then. The shoes.
At the risk of sounding like a Bratz doll, omg.
Omg. Hold me, Misty. Omg. Eek. Crystal, get my water. These shoes are AMAZING. *
The flats are adorable, relatively cheap for Chloe, but not for me. Unfortunately. And the Miu Miu shoes, I swear they cause heart attacks. They are way too great.

Today, I was reading What Claudia Wore and it gave me the hugest urge to go dig through the boxes in my storage room and unearth my ancient BSC books. Just look at this:

I'm sorry! I've been a terrible blogger! School has been keeping me soo busy, as well as you know, real live people. Also, we've been doing water polo in Phys.Ed. and it's the most dreadful sport I've ever done- you have to tread water for what seems like hours, and it's inevitable that someone will push you underwater in their hurry to get the ball. Yuck.
Anyways:

Pre-fall Proenza Schouler, yum. I love how wearable it is, these simple and delightful outfits ooze the typical Proenza tomboy feel but still have a definite school-girl look. These also are very wearable, unlike, for example, Lanvin's crazy animal prints. The first look is amazing, the shorts remind me a bit of their SS/10 (which I still dream about at night).

I'll go back to regular posting soon, I swear.
Isn't the Stella McCartney/Alice in Wonderland jewelry stunning? Also- Kate Moss and Longchamp, SJP and Halston, can't wait to see what happens. So much has been going on!
Last thing, promise- I'll be in New York in three weeks! Unfortunately, it's not for Fashion Week. I'm going a couple of days after it ends, which is sad because I won't be there and sadder because I'm excited to be there right after it ends nonetheless.

Doesn't Karlie look adorable and angelic here? I love this Hermes ad for S/S so much, the scarves look so vibrant and cushy and the braids are both innovative and trendy! Also, Karlie Kloss is one of my favorite models- yes Vogue is a bit overly packed with images of her- but she's amazinggg.

Anyways, you might be wondering where I've been the last week or so. Well, first I returned to school, went back to being busy, doing homework, the usual, then I came down with a fever. After visiting the doctor, I was just delighted to find out that I had, what else, swine flu! Convenient timing to be in quarantine the first week of school, perfect to ensure that I'm never properly caught up the rest of the year. End rant. So the thousand pills I'm taking a day have been working their magic and I'm feeling SO much better. I should be able to get back to regular blogging as soon as possible.

I feel so out of touch with the world- I've been frantically reading Fashionologie and the like to try to catch up, but I still feel out of reach with the current news. I did see, however, that I have the same Steven Alan sweater as Alexa Chung- yeep!

Alternatives to Ugg-liness

I hate Uggs. I really do, and I have good reasons for it- I had a whole post on it (Got No Alibi). So here I am, to present you with a few nice alternatives to those monstrosities.

These Loeffler Randall boots are the most beautiful boots I have ever seen. The delicious looking leather, the subtle wedge, the lace up- the only imperfection is the price. At $895, this is probably way out of most people's price ranges. But god, they are beautiful. They're also guaranteed to be high quality and last several times longer than those dreadful Uggs. A problem may be the factors of being weather-proof and warm. For weather-proof issue: if you can wear those Uggs with a skirt, you're obviously not in snow, you clearly don't need weather-proof boots because THESE SHOES ARE NOT ANY LESS WEATHERPROOF THAN UGGS. There are also such things as water-proof sprays, correct? And warmth- wear a pair of woolly socks. Done.

If you are, however, going to be in a rainy/snowy/freezing weather, there are these Adidas by Stella McCartney snow boots. Yes- they're chunky, fairly shapeless, but I find them way more attractive than any pair of Uggs. They're also in the same price range as Uggs, are actually waterproof, look extremely warm, have some type of traction on the bottom and are exponentially prettier. I really can't think of a reason why you'd prefer Uggs over these. Honestly.

Hunter wellies are the classic wellington boots. They're functional, attractive and come in a variety of colors. And the average Hunter boot is in the 100$ range- cheaper than Uggs! Everyone loves wellies! Burberry and Coach have some pretty fabulous ones as well. My wellingtons are from Marc by Marc Jacobs, they were only 28$ (I loove those Marc Jacobs accessories stores!) and they have a lovely neon trim. And if your wellies aren't keeping you warm, Hunter makes socks especially for their wellingtons, what a win.

See! There's no need to buy Uggs, look at all the other shoes that do not induce cankles/seizures from the hideous-ness. I mean, really- which over-the-knee boots would you rather wear?

The first decade of the new millennium, the first full decade for everyone older than 10 and younger than 20, the nameless decade, the zeroes, the oohs or whatever you would like to call it. Whether it was full of joy and creativity and couture, or heartbreak and boredom, you have to admit it was a quite an interesting ten years! Or is it just because that these have been the only years I can remember so far in my life? No matter what you think, to me, this decade has certainly been special.
So as the New Year approaches and everyone is thinking up their resolutions and wishes and sparkly outfits, I'd like to post mine here, because after all, what else is a blog but a place to store my thoughts?

For 2010 (very futuristic, no?) and the new decade, I'd like to:

Keep writing, and enjoying it. Both on this blog, in real life, in school, whenever it strikes my fancy!
Be inspired by everything around me, because there is plenty to be inspired by.
Dress well. I hope that I do already, but I want to be more creative, take more risks and stop stopping myself from wearing an outfit just because it makes me stick out from the crowd of Ugg-wearing, Hollister-loving high school kids.
Be healthy: it's too easy to sit slumped in front of a computer screen all day eating peanut butter sandwiches and drinking milk through flavored straws (or is that just me...) Also: exercise. And plenty of it.
Aim to be a little spark of joy in everyone's life! Cheesy? Yes! But something that I wish others would aim to be? Also yes!
Keep up with the world.
Make every day Thanksgiving, not in the cranberry jelly sense, but in the way that I appreciate everything, everyday.
Continue loving fashion, all aspects of it, and hopefully pursue a career in it?!
Try to be a nice person- seriously. Help out with the world, save some electricity, ride a bike, recycle, anything to make my conscience feel healthy.
Be happy.

Yes, I did steal that title from an episode of Grey's Anatomy. No, I'm not ashamed. It's the holidays! The snows not falling here, there are NO decorations up in my house besides a lone string of lights across a window, but to me, there's holiday cheer everywhere! I went shopping for my parents yesterday, and after purchasing bath milk and body lotion for my mom, I bought a little treat for myself: shoes.
Here they are, in all of their studded glory.
They're from "Twinkle", a Japanese brand, and I looooove them. They're also extremely comfortable and slightly reminiscent of these Loubs:I love them. They're amazing, right? And also about 1/10th the price of the Louboutins. Yes! Happy Holidays, you guys!

The temperature here has dropped several degrees, but I finally went out and did something productive today (shocker, I know) despite the cold. I went with my dad on a shopping quest to find my mom her perfect Christmas present. We tried Louis Vuitton, Coach, Valentino, Prada- all of them unsuccessful. But then, we ventured into a store called Borsalini, which I have never heard of before, but had to trust, as it was sandwiched between Roberto Cavalli and Lanvin. And there we found it, to the delight of my dad, who is definitely not a shopping person. It's lovely black leather, cross body and has a very Bottegga-like weave. Anyways, this is what I wore during our little shopping excursion:Sweater: Talula

Bag: DiorI love this sweater, my dad let me open it as a pre-Christmas Christmas present because he's too lazy to lug it overseas. He got it from Aritzia, the place he buys all my presents (not that I'm complaining) because it's pretty much guaranteed that I'll love it. It's super soft, super warm, super cozy, made out of heathered charcoal wool, with a bit of a cowl neck, which isn't visible due to this - if I do say so myself - absolutely perfect scarf. I bought it "for my mom" at Scoop this summer, but let's just say that it's been residing in my closet for now. It's a delicious silk and cashmere blend, as well as the perfect length and print.

My dad was in a great mood after the success of the bag buying and simply amazing burgers, so he let me spend an hour or so in Lanvin pawing the fabrics and drooling in awe. It's rather embarrassing to the people I'm with, I fondle every flat in there and gasp at every dress or so. Anyways, I tried on the best, best pair of mint green ballet flats in there. They're just a "bit" overpriced, but I swear that one day, I'll own them. Even if it takes thirty years, I am going to own them! Sorry- excuse my crazy talk, I'm going to go reminsice about those crazy beautiful flats now.

Well, it's officially winter break for me! I've already hidden away all school-related items, migrated to the TV room, and stuck my feet into a pair of fuzzy striped socks, tucked in sweatpants- aren't you proud to call me a fashion blogger? Although a leather jacket is probably one of the last things that pops into someone's mind when they picture my personal style, I've been coveting a really nice one recently. To pair with candy-coated florals, grosgrain ribbons and general flouncy-ness, yes? I think this one from RevolveClothing is really nice, it's by S.W.O.R.D. but it's just a "bit" out of my price range at $902.

Looking back at those items, I think the only item I have a possibility of calling my own is the Steven Alan skirt, but considering the fact that I ordered from there a mere week ago rules it out as well. I'm keeping my eye on the Loubs nonetheless :)

Once again, I'm wearing monochromatic clothing. When the sky is gray and the sun nowhere to be found, I feel like that's all there is to wear. The gloomy weather has also put me into a rather sullen, un-inspired mood... My mood and outfits tend to match the weather.
Please ignore the silly little trinkets I have hanging on my mirror! Despite my exceeding childishness in my room decoration, isn't it cute? It's very pink, very girly, lots of magazine pages on the wall and jewelry on hooks. I love my room, I think that in a way, it's the perfect representation of me.

Aren't these Alexander McQueen flats amazing? I saw them on the Outnet today, and I nearly gasped out loud! I adore the subtle stone color toughened up with a single, oversized stud. These would look perfect with a nice pair of skinny jeans... Too bad they're nearly 400$ even on sale and only available in size 10.

Every time I see a photo of Dakota Fanning, two things happen: the song Dakota by Rocket to the Moon pops into my head and I become so jealous that I nearly cry. Why? Well, because she's pretty much the same age as me, and just... Look. She's an amazing actress and has amazing style and wears AMAZING, AMAZING clothes. She also seems normal, unlike Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato, who's styles I'm not fond of. So yeah. She's all grown up now! I remember watching I Am Sam and crying oh-so-hard. And are those YSL's she's wearing up there?
This photo particularly has been floating around, people praising it and her future style potential, etc, etc. I just really adore it as a dress. I think it's stunning, and would wash her dishes for a month just to be able to wear it for one night, haha. Anyways, I think this outfit is fabulous, as is she. I am positively green with envy...

Questions, Questions, Questions

As an avid reader of Fashionista.com, I was of course super excited to see that they posted my suggestion for the Adventures In Copyright feature. However, this got me wondering, what about a blog makes you feel proud when you're included? Is it the amount of readers? The cleverness of the authors? The aesthetic of the site itself? Why, for example, would you be pleased to see yourself mentioned on Fashionista, but not on my blog? Assuming that you enjoy what I write and don't think I'm an idiot who has no idea what I'm talking about (maybe I am a bit), what makes a blog worthy of reading? What makes a blog GOOD?

For some reason, this question has been really bothering me. Is it considered interesting if the person dresses fabulously, or has an extensive collection of shoes? Or is it interesting if she has a strong point of view on the skinniness of models? Or both? With a practically infinite amount of fashion blogs out there, how does someone get oneself out there, get people to read their blog and comment and maybe even talk to their friends about it.

Sorry for a post full of slightly rhetorical questions, but I've been feeling frustrated recently... It gets a bit disheartening writing post after post with hardly any followers and a total of five comments in the history of my blog. Is there just something wrong with my blog? Am I terribly boring, because tell me if I am. I swear I can take it! Constructive criticism.

Back to what makes a blog good: I think it's really all very subjective- one person's idea of a fabulous blog may be the next's idea of the reason why the Internet shouldn't have been created. My general guidelines are: post regularly, dress well, talk about a variety of subjects, include pictures AND text, pleasant layout, etc, etc.

Just wondering, what are yours? Why are some blogs so successful and some so unsuccessful? What makes a blog good?

Desaturation

If an outfit post a day keeps the doctor away, I'd be on my deathbed. Thankfully, no one's punishing me for my lack of outfit posts- or should I say lack of interesting outfits?

I've been wearing a very neutral color palette recently- grays and blacks and whites, the only pops of color are dusty blue and the palest pink.

Got No Alibi

You ain't got no alibi, you're ugg-ly, yeah, yeah, you're ugg-ly.
Well, Bring it On cheers aside, don't these make you want to shield your eyes? Or even better, stab them with a fork? While not all Uggs are this, um, darling, I do think that they are generally unflattering and unattractive, and some that are truly horrific (see above and below for reference).

Uggs can be considered a 'controversial' topic for shoes- to one person, the Uggs make them feel cuddly and cozy; and the other person? They're too busy cringing and crying to state how they feel about Uggs. Yes, they're warm and yes, shearling is delightfully soft, but the cons by far overpower the pros! First of all, they're not waterproof. Shearling lining plus snow and rain equals soggy, numb toes. Second of all, they're unflattering. As in, more unflattering that say, a pair of high-waisted, horizontally striped wide legged pants. They enlarge the lower leg and create instant cankles, as well as make your feet look like huge, lumbering moose hooves! Thirdly, everyone wears them. Yes, there are (unfortunately) millions of variations- at my school alone, I've seen the usual black, brown, tan, gray, but also lavender, baby pink, seafoam green, red, dark purple, tassled, leopard printed, laced up and on and on, but I can count thirty girls in my school wearing them on any day.Fourth, they are not practical. Seriously. Could you, say, run from a coyote in Uggs? No. Could you easily shake them off in order to swim if you fell into a lake? No. They'd weigh you down and cause your death. Could you survive without Uggs? Yes, very much so. My general rule is 'If it's not cold enough to require long pants and a jacket, do not wear Uggs'. Or even better, do not wear them at all! Invest in a nice pair of boots that elongate your legs and hmm, don't make you look like an eskimo? Fifth and final, Uggs are overpriced. They are. I know I'm not one to say anything as an owner of shoes that cost three times the price of Uggs, but Uggs are all the things I listed above, while for example, a pair of Marc flats are the opposite- they're stylish, flattering, practical and I feel like I'm paying for what I get: a shoe that's impeccably made and gorgeously designed. Uggs on the other hand, are not made of real leather, have cheap rubber soles, and frankly, are hideous, so they are most definitely not worth the 70-200 dollars that they're sold for.
So there it is. My rants and reasons about Uggs. My final verdict? Uggs are unattractive, overpriced, common and impractical shoes. But hey. If you like them, wear them, I'll just consider you a puzzle and sort you into the unsolvable category. Am I being mean? Maybe so. But I have my feelings about Uggs, and I'm sure you do too- so go on and share them! I'm going to go shop for real shoes now, because you're ugg-ly, yeah, yeah, you're ugg-ly...

Winter Wonderland?

I love winter- the brisk air, the twinkling lights, the giving (and receiving) of presents- but I oftentimes have a lot of trouble picking outfits to wear, that not only keep me warm and dry but also keep me looking decent! The country that I live in doesn't get too cold, but it's most definitely not hot in the winter. Some may consider this great, but I beg to differ. It's not cold enough to justify ugly snow boots and unflattering parkas, yet there's no way I could prance around in shorts and a t-shirt. With this fickle in-between weather, I tend to form a 'model' outfit, a blueprint of what to wear to simply be filled in with patterns and colors. There are two types of these "blueprints" for one more casual one, one a bit fancier. Here they are (yes, I'm aware that I have a lot of free time):
My casual look:

While, in my opinion, both are attractive, but still boring, boring, boring. All my outfits are literally those models, but with different fabrics and colors. I want to wear different items, to look fresh and exciting... But it's so hard in the winter.
Here are a few of ideas for myself (and maybe for you, if you're in the same position):

- Try different silhouettes! Why not wear a corset top over a super-soft button-down? Or an over-sized wool sweater and a flouncy skirt with over the knee boots?
- Mix patterns, fabrics, ideas- to an extent. I find that similar color schemes allow room for lots of mixing up, so try something like a black velvet blazer with a subtly striped charcoal tops, swiss dot tights and studded boots.
- Bring items in from different seasons. A pastel sundress is fine in the winter with a bulky jacket, warm tights and cute boots, as is your favorite tank top, as long as you stay warm.
- Seem obvious, but accessorize. A scarf can do wonders for warmth and style, but why not wrap it around your hips or head instead? Layers of necklaces and ring upon ring can brighten up any outfit.
- Don't fall into easy, simple options. I tend to lean for jeans and sweaters and scarves, all the time, so it's a goal to challenge myself and think of outfits outside this wintry box. If you're a person who finds yourself constantly wearing sweatshirts, try something new, such as a blazer or pea coat. And if you're not willing to step away from the cuddly material, at least try one that not pullover, it'll look less casual and different from your usual look.

I'm sure there are tons other things that you and I could do to brighten up our wardrobes, but I think that so far, this is all I need (well, besides winning the lottery and a trip to Barneys) to shake up my wardrobe in order to really enjoy the wonderland that is winter.

Make it work

As much as I love Tim Gunn and Michael Kors, Project Runway disappointed me this season, and
I'm pretty sure it was not just me that felt there was a gaping hole where there was once a spark. I felt that while yeah, the designs were pretty, and I'd wear them, but aren't they supposed to be special and innovative and a breath of fresh air? They were definitely not "making it work"! ARGH! And none of the people were particularly interesting, sorry Irina and Althea.
I want to see drama and high fashion and amazing ideas... Not just the same stuff over and over again. What's happening to Project Runway?!
First Luella goes down the drain, then Project Runway- what will I have to look forward to? Next, I'll find out that Marc has retired or something equally horrific! Excuse this little rant, I'm really sleepy.

Brands like Forever 21, Steve Madden and Bebe have been known for blatantly stealing ideas and designs- just how many lawsuits have they had to deal with, with ones from Anna Sui and Trovata and most recently, Alexander McQueen? It's impossible to avoid being inspired and influenced, but there is just so much outright copying out there (Fashionista's "Adventures in Copyright" is a great example of how much is out there) that I try to do my part and not contribute. Because of how much I hate the way they earn their money: steal ideas, create clothes with terrible quality, sell for cheap, I've pretty much officially banned myself from buying clothes from Forever 21 and similar brands such as Steve Madden.
But without buying from brands like these, I'm usually stuck with much more expensive clothes, which is often heartbreaking because I cannot buy in bulk. I haven't been shopping at such brands for about a year, and as I'm looking at the F21 site at this very moment, I truly do not see anything that appeals to me. I mean, I find this dress cute, but the majority of the stuff looks trashy and cheap! I wonder why this is... Because I haven't set foot in a Forever 21 store or glanced at their website for nearly a year? Because all my attention has been paid to far more sophisticated stores? Because my personal style has been changed? I have no idea, but I'm glad that I'm not even the slightest bit inclined to ever shop there again!

A fine example of an obvious rip-off:

Doesn't this bag by Big Buddha look like a certain bag by a certain Italian designer? Mhmm, the Valentino Rose Dome bag that I've been lusting after, oh, only forever.
The only way to tell them apart is the difference in the quality of leather and the size of the rose: even the shape of the bag is identical!
How do you feel about "inspired" pieces? A theft of ideas or an opportunity for the unwealthy to experience higher fashion?

Layer Cake

I think that the best type of therapy is the retail type, it never seems to fail. I've been feeling pretty busy and frustrated and extremely stressed for no particular reason. The knots in my shoulders are hard as rock! Whenever I'm feeling especially down, I - what else? - shop.
My recent posts have been full of things that I want, want, want so I'm trying to write a bit more in this one, but there are really too many beautiful items out there that I desire to limit them to one or two posts! I've been looking on tons of sites to relax and brighten up my day, and I noticed that most of the items that have really caught my eye recently are neutral and usually solid, layered/tiered, frayed, or both like the Elizabeth and James dress below!
I love the name of this one: A Thousand Tiers.
No layers or frayed edges here, this dress is delightfully simple and stunningly beautiful! I would buy this in a heartbeat but it's sold in my size... Great minds think alike?Not exactly cohesive with the neutral color scheme for the rest of the items, but the layers are perfect! The placement and cut of them remind me of the ebb and flow of waves- gorgeous.
All these are from Anthropologie except for the first two, from My-Wardrobe. I'm sorry for the similar posts- promise, promise, promise to try to post more personal ones soon!

Hey Steven

I haven't posted in a while again! I've just been feeling like I'm in a bit of a slump right now- I search through my closet for nearly an hour, yet I don't find a single thing to wear! I certainly have more than enough clothes, but for some inexplicable reason, I don't feel like wearing them. They seem so ugly and uninteresting to wear.

But... I think I've found the answer!

I only need a few things, and I'll be happy forever- I swear. A classic shopaholic's excuse, but really, these pieces from Steven Alan deserve to be placed on a pedestal and worshipped from below. They. are. perfect.

I want to post everything from his site on here: they are all beyond amazing.

I love the Ella skirts! They come in several colors in both velvet and corduroy. Wouldn't this just look perfect with anything? Not to mention how in velvet is right now!

The placement of the buttons adds the perfect touch and go so well with the navy.

I've never noticed Steven Alan jewelry before, but I am soooo glad I did! Too bad this bracelet's too expensive...

This dress. It has no faults.

Choo-Choo Train

The Jimmy Choo for H&M ad campaigns were recently revealed, and I think they're amazing. The actual ad wasn't genius, but just a glimpse of the shoes was enough for me to want to camp outside H&M the night before they're released. I love how you can get designer fashion for cheap, without having to resort to cheap, disgusting knockoffs from Steve Madden or Forever 21. I know not everyone, including me, can afford to buy all their clothes from places like Shopbop, but it's a horrible thing to rip off other people's designs, stealing their money and creativity.

Are you scared of the future?

The fashion industry is extremely competitive, stressful, busy, and yes, of course, fabulous. To think about how difficult it is to just obtain an internship makes me want to burst into tears when I think about how difficult it will be to get a real, paying job that can support me living in New York and my addiction to clothes. Before you judge me, no- I am not weak. I am willing to fight through the crowds of girls yearning for a job with a trendsetting designer or a Conde Nast publication, because I desire it more. I will make it happen. I know it. It just scares me to think about how hard it will be to get there, and stay with it. Fashion is like a person- a perpetual motion machine, ever changing and ever evolving. I don't want to do this, but to quote Heidi Klum (enter Swedish accent), "In fashion, one day you're in; the next, you're out." I don't have any relatives or friends in the industry, nor is my blog successful, I have never had my writing published and I'm not a reality tv show star. How do I get my foot in the door? How will I stay in the industry? Will they just laugh in my face and ignore my requests for an interview? These questions clutter my head daily, and I'm still far away from beginning my college experience. Every facet of me, every single cell of me in every single part of my body, wants to be in fashion. That's not the problem. The problem, right now, is getting there.

Don't Fall

Fall is officially here! You can smell it in the air and see it in the trees- and in people's outfits.

I've posted before about my Alexander Wang for Gap Motorcycle Jacket and I recently obtained a really adorable faux-fur trimmed parka from Aritzia. (note: I was so excited to see the Candian store mentioned on LibertyLondonGirl).

Here it is!

It looks fairly terrifying here, but I promise, it's amazing. Super soft furry stuff on the inside, detachable hood, very chic and probably too warm for where I live- oh well!

Time Flies By

Many profuse apologies for not posting in practically eons.

So Fashion Week madness is now over (not that it's ever really over), and new hair, makeup and of course, clothing trends will be popping up all over!

A quick summary of everything I've been thinking of the last weeks:

-Karl Lagerfeld never fails to pleasantly shock me! Country themed Chanel? Yes!

-Proenza Schouler's glittery, beetle-like dresses and skirts. If anyone has figured a way to incorporate this into my wardrobe, please do share.

-The Teen Vogue Handbook arrived. The articles are interesting and informative, and feature so many of my favorite people, ahem, Marc, Karl, Anna as well as Thakoon, Proenza, interns from Teen Vogue, Vogue writers, photographers, models... They really included it all, I highly recommend this to anyone interested in a career in fashion, because I know I'll be reading

this over and over.

-The September Issue. Andre Leon Talley, oh, how I love you.

-And so much more! Fashion is constantly changing and evolving, that's part of what I love about it!
